2026 Cocke County Elections

  • May 5, 2026 - County Primary.

  • August 6, 2026 - State and Federal Primary & County General.

  • November 3, 2026 - State and Federal General, Newport Municipal, & Parrottsville Municipal.

Information for Prospective Candidates and Announced Candidates, 2026 Cocke County Elections -

  • First Item to Complete - All prospective candidates and announced candidates for a full-time Cocke County office on the ballot in 2026 must appoint a political treasurer through the Cocke County Election Commission office. This includes any chief administrative part-time office, such as City of Newport Mayor.

    DETAILS: Prospective Candidates and Announced Candidates for County Mayor, Newport Mayor, County Trustee, Sheriff, Circuit Court Clerk, Sessions Court Clerk, County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and County Superintendent of Roads need to file an Appointment of Political Treasurer form (pdf) with the Cocke County Election Commission office before raising or spending any funds pertaining to the candidacy or exploration of candidacy. These candidates will then file campaign financial reports throughout their candidacy and as long campaign funds are maintained in a bank account. Contact the Cocke County Election Commission or the Tennessee Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance for more information.

    NOTE: Candidates for part-time Cocke County and municipal offices (County Commissioner, School Board, Road Commissioner, Constable, Newport Alderman, Parrottsville Town Commissioner) are exempt from filing campaign financial reports unless they plan to spend more than $1,000 on their campaign.

    STATE CANDIDATES: Prospective Candidates and Announced Candidates for any state office should contact the Tennessee Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance or call 615-741-7959 for details on campaign financial reports for state candidates.

  • Relevant qualifying dates for all 2026 Elections are TBD will be announced Summer 2025.

  • Nominating petitions for the 2026 Cocke County and State Elections will be available Winter 2025-2026. Relevant qualifying deadlines (TBD) will apply and will be announced through printed public notice and on this website.

  • Nominating petitions for 2026 City of Newport and Town of Parrottsville Elections will be available Summer 2026. Relevant qualifying deadlines (TBD) will apply and will be announced through printed public notice and on this website.

Absentee By-Mail Voting

Unless you are on the permanent absentee voting register, enrolled in the Safe at Home program, or you have previously voted in the county of registration, you must appear in-person to vote in the first election after you have registered by-mail or online at GoVoteTN.gov. The Cocke County Election Commission office:

  • Manages all voter registration in Cocke County and all voter list maintenance;

  • Plans and implements all elections in Cocke County, including federal, state, county, and municipal;

  • Provides election information to residents and prospective voters;

  • Maintains candidate and referendum records, including nominating petitions and local campaign financial reports;

  • Complies with all state law and promulgated rules regarding elections in the State of Tennessee and monitors legislation and updates for changes to the law or rules.
